What does the therapeutic curriculum at BARN consist of?

1. A typical day at "the BARN" includes the following activities:

  • 8:00 AM
Leave residence to go to treatment center.
  • 8:45 - 9:45 AM
Community Meeting led by staff.
  • 10:00 - 10:45 AM
Interpersonal Psycho-dynamic/Cognitive-Behavioral Motivationally Enhancing Therapeutic Group I.
  • 11:00 - 11:45 AM
Interpersonal Psycho-dynamic/Cognitive-Behavioral Motivationally Enhancing Therapeutic Group II.
  • 12:00 - 1:00 PM
Lunch.
  • 1:00 - 1:45 PM
Spiritually Based 12 Steps Facilitation.
  • 2:00 - 2:45 PM
Working the Steps Didactic Session.
  • 3:00 - 3:45 PM
Didactic Sessions: Family and Addiction, Network Therapy or Relapse Prevention.
Art Therapy, Music Therapy or Relaxation Therapy.
  • 4:00 - 5:00 PM
Individual Appointments, Network Implementation or Individual Study Time.
  • 5:30 PM
Dinner. Community Dinner on Wednesdays. Family Dinner on Fridays.
  • 7:00 - 8:00 PM
Twelve Step AA Meeting or Caduceus Meeting.

On weekends, residents are expected to attend AA meetings. Therapeutic, Recreational Community Outings, Family Visits, and study time fill the rest of this seemingly idle time.

Open AA at Cannon Hospital.

Caduceus Meeting or AA meeting in Blowing Rock.

7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
AA meeting at Boone Methodist Church.
  • Friday
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
12/12 Study Meeting in Linville.
  • Saturday
8:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Speaker Meeting at St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
  • Sunday
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
12 step Meeting at Campus Catholic Ministries.

 

3. During the first sixty days each resident receives:
  • 80 hours of Interpersonal Psycho-dynamic/Cognitive-Behavioral Motivationally Enhancing Group Psychotherapy.
  • 40 hours of "Spiritually Based 12 Steps Facilitation" Didactic Sessions, covering all twelve steps.
  • 40 hours of "Working the Steps" Didactic Sessions, covering all twelve steps.
  • 16 hours of Network Therapy Introduction and Synthesis Didactic Sessions.
  • 8 hours of Relapse Prevention Didactic Sessions
  • 6 hours of Fourth Step Workshop
  • 3-Day "Family and Addiction", Family Program
